The variety belongs to the early-maturing group. The root crops are characterized by a short length, a blunt tip, and smooth skin. In historical literature, it is described as a "heartless" variety with tender and sweet red flesh. The leaf rosette is compact.

Traditionally, the variety was intended for cultivation in greenhouses and under cover due to its early maturity. It was also cultivated in the open field to obtain extra-early or late produce. It requires light soils for cultivation. In modern international classifiers, the variety is used as a reference specimen.
