Plants of this group are characterized by simple flowers 4–4.5 cm in diameter and racemose inflorescences 30–40 cm long. The foliage of the plants is dark green.

For normal development, delphiniums prefer fertile, well-drained soils. They are sensitive to soil quality and do not tolerate poor or dry sites well.
