The variety is a highly specialized carnation intended for cutting. Morphological traits, including the shape of the flower, calyx and petals, as well as their color and texture, are registered for the purposes of identification and intellectual property protection.
In documentation, the Barolluba variety is sometimes used as a control sample when comparing characteristics of other Dianthus species, such as flowering time or the number of lateral shoots.
