The variety belongs to the standard carnation group, forming single large flowers on the stem. The petals are light purple-pink in color and have slightly serrated edges. Historically, the name was also applied to other varieties, including late-flowering types with scarlet flowers, however, this description refers to the variety bred by Barberet & Blanc.
The plant is used as a commercial cut flower crop. The variety is frequently used in botanical scientific research focused on the physiology of cutting rooting, the effects of cold storage, and the characteristics of indole-3-acetic acid transport in stem tissues.
