Dianthus gratianopolitanus variety Rubin is a herbaceous cushion-forming perennial 10–25 cm in height. The plant has narrow needle-like glaucous leaves and simple five-petaled flowers of a rich red-crimson or bright red shade with a diameter of about 1.5 cm.

This variety is winter-hardy, withstanding temperatures down to -35...-40°C, and drought-tolerant. It prefers sunny areas with light well-drained soil and does not tolerate waterlogging. It is used in landscape design for rock gardens, alpine gardens, creating borders, and group plantings.

In the International Dianthus Register, the name Ruben is established as a trade designation for the Klemfast variety from the Dianthus caryophyllus group.
