The Selima carnation variety is mentioned in scientific publications on cut flower physiology as a representative of the Sim group. Studies dedicated to investigating vase life show that this variety does not respond to treatment with ethylene action inhibitors, such as silver thiosulfate.

The lack of response to ethylene is attributed to the genetics of the hybrids used in breeding, in particular, to developmental abnormalities of the gynoecium.
