The variety is a hybrid of Distylium racemosum and Distylium myricoides species. The plant is a compact, rounded or slightly spreading shrub with dense branching. The height of an adult bush is 60–90 cm, width is 90–120 cm.
Small leaves have a plum-purple hue upon emerging, which eventually changes to blue-green. The foliage remains ornamental year-round. In late winter or early spring, the plant blooms with small red-maroon flowers.
The variety is characterized by high resistance to diseases and pests typical for evergreen shrubs, and also tolerates heat and drought. USDA hardiness zones 7–9, with possible adaptation to zone 6b conditions.
