The plant belongs to the species Euphorbia fulgens and is a shrub with thin, elegant, often arcuately curved stems. The height in cultivation varies from 60 to 200 cm depending on growing conditions.

Flowering occurs during a short day. Inflorescences are formed in the leaf axils along the stem and consist of small brightly colored bracts. The plant is sensitive to ethylene and is susceptible to fungal diseases, requiring soil sterilization before planting. When used as a cut flower, special stem preparation is required to remove air bubbles from the laticifers.
