The classic Bounty variety was bred in Canada in 1972 by crossing Jerseybelle and Senga Sengana varieties. It is a vigorous plant with an upright bush and dark green leaves. The berries are dark red, conical in shape, medium-sized, and distinguished by firm flesh, sweet taste, and aroma. The variety is characterized by high yield and winter hardiness, ripening 8–10 days later than the Redcoat variety; however, it can be susceptible to Verticillium wilt and red stele root rot.
A separate Bounty variety, registered by Strawberry Sciences, LLC, is intended for cultivation in the central-western part of Florida. Its key features are early flowering and fruiting, high marketable yield, large berry size, and firm flesh.
