The variety is a hybrid obtained as a result of crossing Fragaria vesca and Fragaria iinumae. The compact plant reaches a height of 20–30 cm, with flower stalks and fruit stalks positioned vertically above the leaves. The small, bright red, round-shaped berries possess an intense aroma characteristic of wild strawberries.
The plant is an early variety capable of prolonged fruiting from June and self-pollination. Fontaine possesses winter hardiness and is suitable for cultivation in pots, hanging baskets, on balconies, or as a ground cover crop in the garden.
