The variety was obtained as a result of breeding work from an open-pollinated population of the Missionary variety; the presumed paternal form is Klonmore. Plants were adapted to a tropical climate and possessed moderately high resistance to crown rot.
The fruits were characterized by their large size, elongated shape, and good taste qualities. The variety was the standard for Central Florida until the mid-1960s due to its high yield and maturation period in March-April.
