The PIR54 genotype was created as part of an Italian research program aimed at developing strawberries for the conditions of southern regions. It is currently considered an advanced breeding specimen used in comparative scientific trials of productivity and fruit quality.
During agronomic research, the genotype demonstrated good performance regarding fruit weight when using winter planting technologies. It was established that the use of frigo-type seedlings contributes to a significant increase in yield compared to the use of fresh seedlings.
