The variety is a hybrid of Gentiana scabra and Gentiana septemfida. The plant possesses dark green elongated lanceolate leaves 3–4 cm in length with a sharp tip.

Flowers with a diameter of 1.5–2 cm have a dark blue or purple color and are gathered in corymbose or racemose inflorescences. Flowering occurs from mid-August to October.

The plant prefers bright locations protected from direct sunlight and moderately moist, well-drained soils. It is sensitive to excessive moisture, and when grown in a garden, it may show a tendency toward lodging.
