The variety forms dense clumps. The foliage has a marbled pattern, which is the main ornamental feature of the plant. The flowers are usually light purple or pink in color with a white center and reticulated veins.
The plant is intended for ornamental gardening. The species naturally grows in the mountainous regions of Japan, reaches a height of 20 to 70 cm and blooms between July and September.
