The OS 289 soybean variety is the first officially registered crop bred by the Agricultural Institute in Osijek. The variety belongs to the early-maturing group and is intended for grain production.

In studies from the 1980s, this variety was considered a suitable crop for stubble sowing after the harvest of winter crops in the regions of Slavonia and Baranja. Currently, the variety is considered obsolete and has been replaced in breeding programs by more modern counterparts.
