The variety has pubescent leaves and a stem. During field trials, plants exhibited symptoms of bronze wilt; in addition, the variety lacks genetic resistance to bacterial blight.
The plant is transgenic: the PM 1560 BG variant includes Bollgard technology for pest resistance, and the PM 1560 BG/RR version additionally contains the Roundup Ready gene, providing resistance to the herbicide glyphosate.
The variety was developed as part of the Louisiana State University breeding program and was tested under the number LA830909. Its pedigree includes the lines LA434-1031-C and DES119.
