Line 2603 is an object of scientific research and breeding programs, in particular the work of INRAE. It is classified as a maintainer line of PET1 cytoplasmic male sterility and is used in genetic mapping and the study of physiological mechanisms.
In scientific practice, the line is used as a susceptible control in the study of resistance to broomrape (Orobanche cumana), as well as a model for studying mechanisms of carbon transfer in the host-parasite system and adaptation to low temperatures.
