Line 99R was obtained by the method of induced parthenogenesis in combination with embryo culture from an experimental hybrid (132 × 98). It is used in breeding work for the creation of interline sunflower hybrids, for example, the Linzi hybrid.
The plant possesses genetic resistance to the parasite broomrape (Orobanche cumana Wallr.), showing resistance to race G at a level of 50% to 75% under field conditions. The line is regularly used in scientific programs for the development of high-yielding combinations and the analysis of quantitative traits of oil content and yield.
