BG N 4 is an inbred line intended for obtaining hybrid progeny. In breeding work, it is often used as a sterile analogue in combinations with fertility restorers. The line is used by specialists to study the genetic variability of traits and the influence of climatic factors on seed production.
The plant possesses genetic resistance to downy mildew (gene Pl6), broomrape races A, B, C, D and E, rust, and sunflower moth. It also shows high tolerance to phomopsis, phoma, and sclerotinia. In hybrid combinations, the line is characterized as medium-early and demonstrates high seed germination rates.
