The Gitit variety, also known as IS-GITIT, belongs to the confectionery sunflower category. This variety is of local Israeli breeding.

The variety was known for its resistance to local populations of Orobanche cumana, common in Israel until 2000. In the early 2000s, cases of this variety being infested by new races of the specified parasite were noted in a number of regions of the country.
