Under the name "Merkuriy", various hybrids are released, the characteristics of which may differ depending on the originator. The plants are most often described as early-maturing with a stem height of 170 to 185 cm. The hybrids are characterized by high resistance to lodging and a number of diseases, including downy mildew, phomopsis, white rot, and gray rot.

The oil content of the seeds is 48–53%. Depending on the specific hybrid (for example, "Merkuriy OR" or "Merkuriy IMI"), the plants may possess resistance to various races of broomrape, up to F+. The intended use of the crop is oil production, with both linoleic and high-oleic types of hybrids being present.
