In scientific research, Saturn represents a standard genotype used in breeding programs to study genetics, specifically for creating sources of cytoplasmic male sterility and studying pollen fertility restoration. It is used as a recurrent parent in crosses and serves as a reference when evaluating resistance to Orobanche.
In commercial sales, Saturn is marketed as a decorative annual sunflower. The plant reaches a height of about 120 cm and is characterized by inflorescences with crimson or reddish-brown petals with yellow tips and a dark center, intended for use in flower beds and for cutting.
