Barley variety Ares was bred in France in 1959. In modern agronomy, it is considered not as a commercial production variety, but as an object of genetic heritage.
In scientific literature, Ares is mentioned as breeding material used in the development of other barley varieties, such as Gerbel and Plaisant. The genotype of this variety has also been studied for the presence of powdery mildew resistance genes.
