The Spanish barley variety Bornova was obtained by crossing the KYM and TRAIT D'UNION lines. It is a spring barley variety characterized by a thousand kernel weight in the range of 39–45 g and a test weight of approximately 72–73 kg/hl.

The Turkish variety Bornova-92 is a six-row barley (Hordeum vulgare nutans). It is actively used in scientific research as a model organism for studying plant tolerance to salinity and other abiotic stresses, as well as for evaluating responses to various diseases.
