The Candela variety is genetic material selected from local Spanish populations. It is actively used in breeding and genetic experiments conducted by the Aula Dei Experimental Station (EEAD-CSIC), in particular for studying flowering genes and photoperiod sensitivity.

In available scientific publications, the variety appears exclusively as a genetic resource. A detailed description of its agronomic traits, such as maturity group, plant height, resistance indicators to diseases or lodging, as well as grain quality characteristics, are absent.
