The winter barley variety DORAT was created by specialists at the Agricultural Institute in Osijek. In the institute's breeding work, this variety was used as one of the parental components in the development of the REX variety.
Breeding efforts during the development of the variety were aimed at obtaining short-stemmed plants resistant to lodging, with high grain quality indicators for brewing purposes.
