The variety has the pedigree (Opal x 3087/96) x 1922-23 and is classified as malting barley with no technological defects for this use. In studies, the variety is characterized as late-maturing.

During the trials, the thousand kernel weight was recorded. The variety was also used as a reference sample when studying the resistance of winter barley to Ramularia leaf spot.
