The winter barley variety Mona was obtained as a result of breeding crosses, the pedigree of which is indicated in publications as (Mari x M. Christo) or a combination of ('Herfordia' x 'H. 204') x '702/52' x 'Wssh 382/49'.
In scientific literature, the variety is mentioned in the context of studying powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis) resistance genes, where the presence of the Ml-a9 gene is noted. Today, the variety is considered historical and has been withdrawn from wide commercial circulation.
