The Oxbridge barley variety was used in the malting and distilling industry, particularly in Scotland. It required specific steeping and mashing conditions, and due to the characteristics of the husk, it was prone to peeling, which complicated standard industrial grain processing.
The yield of the variety varied from 5 to 5.5 t/ha depending on the season. The variety was characterized by weak resistance to a number of diseases, including Rhynchosporium.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
