The Panagias variety is a traditional landrace formed as a result of folk selection on the island of Lemnos. The variety is adapted to local climatic conditions and possesses the ability to withstand livestock grazing.
The plant has a dual purpose: it is used for the production of food products, in particular traditional barley rusks, and is also used as feed in livestock farming, which has a positive effect on the quality of livestock products.
