The variety has the pedigree Kristina / 3 / 3*Hellas // 5*Pallas / Rupee. Studies from the 1980s note a high concentration of tannins in the grain compared to other varieties, as well as the study of β-glucan content in its composition.
It is characterized as moderately resistant to Septoria leaf blotch and powdery mildew. It possesses field resistance to barley yellow dwarf virus and contains resistance genes to stem rust. At the same time, the variety is susceptible to leaf rust and infestation by Mayetiola destructor.
