Purple Sensation
ActiveHyacinthus orientalis L. · Common hyacinth
L.W.A. van der Poel
10 August 2026
The variety is a modern multi-flowering hybrid reminiscent of ancient Roman hyacinths. The plant produces from 5 to 15 stems from a single bulb. The inflorescences are loose, consisting of small bell-shaped violet-blue flowers with reflexed petals. The stems are dark-colored, which creates a contrast with the flowers; the foliage is gray-green and linear-lanceolate in shape. The plant height is 20–30 cm.
Flowering occurs during the early and mid-season of mid-spring. The plant is winter-hardy at temperatures down to -15°C. It prefers well-drained soils and a location in sun or light partial shade. To ensure subsequent flowering, the variety requires a full dormancy period and protection from moisture stagnation.
