The rootstock is developed as an interspecific hybrid of Solanum melongena L. and Solanum aethiopicum L. It provides high vegetative development vigor and constant renewal of secondary roots, which improves the nutrition of the scion. The use of the rootstock helps plants better tolerate adverse conditions such as intensive irrigation, early transplanting, or cultivation on "tired" soils.
The plant possesses high resistance to the fungal disease Fusarium oxysporum and prevents the development of chlorosis during cold periods by maintaining the health of the root system. Augusto has excellent compatibility with various eggplant varieties, without altering the organoleptic qualities and varietal characteristics of the scion fruits.
