Hime-Ajisaï is an heirloom Japanese variety discovered by botanist Tomitaro Makino on Mount Togakushi. The variety name translates as "princess hydrangea" and reflects the color typical of the plant's inflorescences.

The plant belongs to the group of varieties with globose inflorescences. The flower color is characterized by an intense blue, which may vary depending on the chemical properties of the soil.

The variety is widely used in landscape design and is a cult plant for Japanese temple gardens, where it is planted en masse in park areas.
