The Selenia variety belongs to the group of New Guinea hybrids. It is characterized by flowers that have a tendency to be hidden in the foliage and are less noticeable compared to modern cultivars. When pinched, the plant is capable of forming tertiary branches.

During agronomic research in the 1990s, it was noted that the variety possesses a specific reaction to growth regulators, different from many other cultivars of that period. The plant was studied in the context of bush formation and flowering under various light and temperature conditions.
