The Noba rootstock is the result of breeding by the French technical center CTIFL and the research center in Creysse. The main purpose of this material is to create a vigorous root system for modern walnut varieties, in particular those with a lateral type of bearing.

In scientific literature, Noba is mentioned among other breeding rootstocks such as Liba (RG 2) and Chereba (RG 15). Specific agronomic characteristics, such as ripeness indicators or nut taste qualities, are absent for this rootstock, as it is not intended for fruit bearing.
