The tree is large, reaching a height of 12 to 30 meters, and has a broad spreading crown. The variety is characterized by late bud break, with fruit ripening occurring in September–October. Grafted saplings begin to bear fruit 2–7 years after planting.

The nuts of the variety are valued for their ability to be extracted in large fragments when cracked and for their rich flavor. The plant is resistant to verticillium wilt, but moderately susceptible to anthracnose. Cross-pollination with other varieties is necessary to ensure a yield.

The tree releases the substance juglone, which can inhibit the growth of a number of neighboring plants. The variety is used as a fruit and ornamental crop, as well as a source of valuable wood. When selecting planting material, the risk of viral diseases should be taken into account.
