Vlach is a hybrid of black walnut (Juglans hindsii) and Persian walnut (Juglans regia), classified as a Paradox type. It was the first clonal rootstock used in walnut cultivation.

The plant is used exclusively as a rootstock for establishing the root system of grafted trees. It possesses high growth vigor and resistance to a range of root infections. Planting material is produced using in vitro micropropagation methods, which ensures genetic uniformity and the absence of viruses.
