The variety forms a leaf rosette from which a thickened, fleshy stem develops. During the growth process, the plant reaches a height of 20 to 60 cm.
The leaves have a slightly bitter taste, while the stems have a fresh nutty flavor. It is recommended to harvest the stems before flowering begins, as they become coarse and lose their taste qualities when overgrown.
The crop's growth cycle from sowing to harvest is 10–14 weeks. When grown during the summer period, plants can be affected by downy mildew.
The stems are consumed raw, boiled, pickled, or fermented. The leaves are also suitable for food, but are considered less valuable in taste compared to the stem part.
