Kagraner Sommer is a heritage variety of butterhead lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata) adapted for summer cultivation. The plants reach 20–30 cm in height and width, forming medium or large-sized heads with tender, buttery light-green or medium-green leaves.
The variety is distinguished by high resistance to bolting and tolerance to hot weather conditions; some descriptions note resistance to powdery mildew. The harvest is collected from June to October; the taste qualities of the leaves are characterized as pleasant and slightly nutty.
There are modifications of the variety (Kagraner Sommer 2 and 3) which may have a yellowish hue or reddish-brown leaf pigmentation. The variety is recognized as traditional and originates from the Kagran district of Austria.
