The Zdar variety was created in the 1950s at the Research Institute of Textile Crops in the city of Šumperk-Temenice. The plant belongs to the oil-fiber type and in some catalogs is classified as a variety suitable for the integrated production of fiber and seeds.

In studies of stem fiber content, the variety demonstrated indicators at the level of 19.4%. Fiber production is of the coarse type with average productivity indicators, while seed production was rated as good.
