The variety belongs to the oilseed flax type. It is characterized by typical oil and linolenic acid content indicators, as well as a relatively high lignan content. Compared to modern breeding achievements, Flanders possesses less lodging resistance and a lower yield level.

Due to the age of the variety, it has been gradually displaced from commercial crops by more productive and disease-resistant lines. In agronomic research, the variety is often used as a control sample for evaluating the morphological and qualitative characteristics of new flax varieties.
