The Combita variety is used as a cover crop in silage maize production systems to reduce nitrogen leaching from the soil. In experiments with inter-row seeding in maize, the variety demonstrated the ability to accumulate an average of 40 kg of nitrogen per hectare in its above-ground biomass.

The nitrogen uptake efficiency of this variety depends directly on winter temperature conditions. Detailed morphological characteristics of the plant and data on its productivity outside the context of its use as a cover crop are absent in open sources.
