The variety Kranich is a perennial low-growing loose-tufted grass. Characteristics of this species include rapid germination, the formation of a dense sward, and responsiveness to intensive use when sufficient moisture and nutrients are available.

This variety is registered as an agricultural crop. It is intended for use in forage production for establishing cultivated pastures and hayfields, as well as in seed mixtures for sports and multi-purpose lawns due to its ability to quickly form a dense turf.
