The variety was created as part of a breeding program for local Greek populations. The main areas of focus were increasing drought tolerance, winter hardiness, leafiness, and forage productivity of the plant.
The plant is an evergreen shrub 1–2 meters in height, capable of reaching 4 meters under favorable conditions. The species is nitrogen-fixing, adapts well to various soil types, including sandy and clay soils, and prefers calcareous soils with a neutral or slightly alkaline reaction.
