The Melissa officinalis variety «Цитронелла» is represented in a number of horticultural and commercial seed catalogs. At the same time, the name «цитронелла» often causes confusion, as it is used to designate other plants, such as lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus or Cymbopogon nardus) and lemon-scented Pelargonium species.

In scientific publications, the variety is mentioned in the context of biotechnological work on clonal micropropagation and callus formation. Researchers selected optimal parameters for nutrient media, in particular Murashige-Skoog medium supplemented with 1.0 mg/l kinetin, for the propagation of this variety under in vitro conditions.
