Senia is a round-grain pearlescent variety that serves as the genetic basis for many modern Spanish rice varieties. The plant is characterized by high productivity, but it has sensitivity to lodging. The variety is often used in scientific research as a model object when studying resistance to pests and diseases.

The grain has the ability to give dishes a creamy texture, which makes it a preferred choice for preparing paella. The variety requires precise adherence to the cooking time, which is 13–15 minutes, as it has low resistance to overcooking and can become sticky if subjected to excessive heat treatment.
