The Submarine variety is a non-patented cultivar, which is used in professional documentation as a reference sample for comparison with other Phalaenopsis varieties. Related or similar varietal forms are also found in catalogs under the names Yellow Submarine and Micaels Yellow Submarine, including varieties of the butterfly form.

Externally, the variety is distinguished by its dark purple flowers. The plant has slightly larger dimensions of the flower and the bush itself compared to a number of other varieties; there are also distinctive features in the shape of the flower lip. The variety is intended for ornamental floriculture in indoor or greenhouse conditions.
