The Canalino variety is a climbing plant requiring the use of supports for cultivation. The seeds are oval in shape and have a characteristic pattern of dark red or almost black stripes. The seed coat is notable for its increased thickness, and the pod is described as dense and leathery.
The plant possesses increased resistance to diseases compared to other varieties of the group. Sowing is traditionally carried out in early May, and harvesting is performed manually from mid-August to late September due to non-simultaneous fruit ripening.
Due to the dense texture of the skin, the variety is considered suitable for preparing soups, stews, and purees. It is part of the Fagiolo di Lamon della Vallata Bellunese Protected Geographical Indication and is grown both for fresh consumption and as dry seeds.
