Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety, also known as Malato or Malatino, is traditional for the Tuscany region in Italy. It is a determinate dwarf plant 40–45 cm in height with light green leaves, belonging to early-maturing varieties.

The pods reach 10–12 cm in length and 1 cm in width, having a yellowish hue upon ripening. The seeds are elliptical or kidney-shaped, 1.5–2 cm by 0.5–1 cm in size, and are colored greenish-cream with a red-garnet halo around the hilum.

The crop possesses the ability to tolerate spring frosts and dry periods, which historically allowed it to be sown early. The variety was traditionally used for home consumption, including as snap beans and as a base for Tuscan soups.
